The Yankees completed a three-game sweep of the Red Sox on Sunday, clinching the AL East title in the process. New York defeated Boston 4-2 in Sunday's matinee game. Andy Pettitte got the win, his 14th victory of the season. The Red Sox jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but the Yankees rallied with runs in the third, sixth (two) and eighth. Boston won the first eight games of the season series, but New York took nine of the next ten contests.
