Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee believes that the current incarnation of the team could come back and win in 2010. "Yeah," Lee told the Chicago Sun-Times, "it could be totally different. There's so many variables in baseball. Sometimes guys have down years; you see it all the time. This year it just happened to be a few guys that either got hurt or have had down years this year. But we fully expect those guys to come back and rebound." Chicago brought most of the players that won 97 games in 2008 back this season, but the offense has struggled. "Everyone's looking for something to point at this season about this team, but the bottom line is we just haven't played well," Lee added. "There's no particular reason. We had high expectations. We haven't met them. But it's not from lack of effort. "It's just been one of those seasons where it's been a struggle. Like [manager] Lou [Piniella] told us today, just go out there this last month and play as hard as you can, and just see what happens."
