The Mets could get pitcher John Maine back before the end of the 2009 season. Maine has been sidelined since June 7 with a sore shoulder, but returned to the team's clubhouse on Sunday one day after throwing four shutout innings in a rehab start. He said he felt no pain in his right shoulder, just the general soreness that would normally follow a start. Maine is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday, and Mets manager Jerry Manuel hinted that he could start the second game of the team's double-header against the Phillies on Sept. 13. "He's a guy we need to see," Manuel said. The Mets are out of playoff contention, but Maine still wants to get back to pitching as soon as possible. "The season's still going on. Everyone else is playing. I want to be a part of this. I want to play. I don't want to go home right now, so I worked to get back," Maine said. "I want to go out there and pitch."
