Derek Jeter will enter Thursday night's game just eight hits shy of Lou Gehrig's franchise record. Gehrig clubbed 2,721 hits in his storied career, and Jeter had 2,713 through Wednesday night. "I was talking to my parents not too long ago, and they were telling me, 'You've got to learn to enjoy some of these things as they're happening ? there's nothing wrong with that,' " Jeter, who isn't one for individual honors, told the New York Times. "So I'm sure it's something that I'll enjoy if it happens." Jeter, 35, had 46 hits in August, the most he's tallied in a month in eleven years. RealGM Note: Jeter has averaged 1.4 hits per game this season, but tallied 1.65 per contest in August. At his current season average, he'll tie Gehrig's record in the first game of New York's double-header on Monday. Using the same logic, he'll surpass Gehrig in the second game of the Labor Day double-header against Tampa Bay.
