Free-agent pitcher Jason Johnson signed a one-year contract Monday with the Cleveland Indians, who might have given up hope of bringing back Kevin Millwood. Johnson went 8-13 last season for the Detroit Tigers. The 32-year-old right-hander had a 4.55 ERA in 33 starts and a career-high 210 innings. Financial terms were not immediately available. Johnson and Paul Byrd, signed by the Indians earlier this month, join C.C. Sabathia, Cliff Lee and Jake Westbrook in one of the AL's deepest rotations. The newcomers will try to replace Scott Elarton, who signed with Kansas City, and Millwood, still on the market but looking for a five-year deal.
