The San Francisco Giants have acquired infielder Ryan Garko from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for left-handed minor league pitcher Scott Barnes, club Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Sabean announced today. Garko batted .285 (68-for-239) with 29 runs scored, 10 doubles, 11 home runs and 39 RBI in 78 games for the Indians this season. Over his last 23 games the Pittsburgh, PA native has batted .349 (29-for-83) with five homers and 11 RBI. He was batting .333 (23-for-69) against left-handed pitching, which led his club and ranked 17th in the American League (min. of 50 plate appearances). Garko started the majority of his games at first base, making 47 starts at that position, compared to six in left field, four in right field and eight as the designated hitter.
