MLB announced today that Rays third baseman Evan Longoria will be unable to play in the 2009 All-Star Game due to an infected ring finger on his right hand. Rangers third baseman Michael Young, who was elected to the All-Star Game via the Player Ballot, will make the start and bat seventh in his place. Angels third baseman Chone Figgins will be Longoria's replacement on the roster, earning his first career All-Star selection and becoming the 30th first-time All-Star selected to the 2009 All-Star Game. Young, a six-time All-Star, is hitting .308 with 11 home runs, 27 doubles and 37 RBI on the season. The 32-year-old will be making his first career Midsummer Classic start. The 31-year-old Figgins is batting .310 with a home run and 28 RBI, and leads the American League with 68 runs scored. In addition, he is tied for the league-lead with seven triples, ranks fourth with 27 stolen bases and has added 16 doubles over 85 games.
