Sergio Mitre pitched eight shutout innings on Sunday, giving the Yankees a viable option as a fifth starter. "He's definitely an option," Joe Girardi said. "I don't see him pitch on a daily basis and I don't see his velocity and command, but I get reports. That's more for the people outside of this room to make that judgment." Alfredo Aceves started in New York's fifth spot on Thursday, but the team values him as a long option out of the bullpen. "Do we start him or do we leave him in the bullpen?" Girardi said. "We have four days to kick it around, and we don't really need that fifth starter until (July 21)."
