Johan Santana gave up the most runs of his major league career on Sunday when he allowed nine to the Yankees. Santana's previous high was eight, which came when he played for the Twins on July 23, 2002 against the White Sox. Santana went 3-plus innings and gave up nine runs on nine hits with two walks. He allowed four runs in the the second inning before allowing five more in the fourth. Hideki Matsui was the only Yankee to hit a home run against Santana, which raised the ballpark's total to 114 in its first 32 games.
