Mets reliever J.J. Putz could be headed for surgery and a stint on the disabled list. He "hurt like hell" while following through on his pitches Thursday; he is dealing with bone spurs in his throwing elbow. "I don't want to say anything until the doctor gives me what his direction would be," Putz said. His ERA on the season is 5.22. "It hurts like hell to yank it," Putz said. "I've been trying to put it in another perspective. It would be like trying to tell Johan (Santana) to go out there and throw his changeup with two fingers, and not being able to roll his changeup. I just can't physically do it."
