The Brewers have enough offense to compete in the NL Central, but could really use an arm like Jake Peavy's to surpass the Cubs. Milwaukee could make a push for Peavy in the summer months, similar to the way they acquired CC Sabathia last July. "That's going to be based solely on how well we play over the course of time," said center fielder Mike Cameron. "I expect for us to play well. We have a lot of talent here." Brewers general manager Doug Melvin, however, says that in-season deals like the Sabathia one are rare. "Those deals only happen every 20 years or so," he said. "But if there is a player available in July who can help us get better, yeah, we'll be open. A lot of things have to be taken into consideration ? how we're playing, if fans are coming out ? "Last year our team was playing well, our fans were coming out and we owed it to our fans, and to our team, to do something."
