Jonathan Papelbon says that he's secure in his contract status with the Red Sox, and admitted that he turned down a two-year contract offer.
He turned down a two-year deal in the range of $15-16 million before accepting a one-year, $6.25 million contract in January, which allowed him to avoid arbitration.
"We tried to do a long-term deal, but it never really came to a head," he said.
Papelbon reported wanted a four-year deal.
