The Orioles avoided arbitration with reliever George Sherrill on Friday night by signing him to a $2.75 million for the 2009 season. Sherrill, who saved 31 games last season, tripled his salary from 2008. The All-Star asked for $3.4 million, while the Orioles offered $2.2 million. "It's good to have it over and done with," Sherrill said. "We leave on Sunday [for spring training]. It's good to be able to fly down and have it behind us. I just never want to have to go through it [arbitration]. I've heard stories about it and I would just rather avoid that completely. So it feels good."
