The Brewers are preparing to make free agent pitcher CC Sabathia an offer to remain with the team in the coming days. General Manager Doug Melvin said Thursday that he is close to making an offer to Sabathia. "It will be soon," Melvin said. "We're getting close to doing that." Sabathia is expected to be offered a bigger contract than the six-year, $137.5 million deal Johan Santana got from the Mets last season, which many believe is out of Milwaukee's range. "He's not going to be a guy who's going to have 27 phone calls," Melvin said. "He'll probably have five if he's going to demand the money he's going to demand. He'll get a lot less phone calls."
