The New York Yankees gave Yankee Stadium a proper send-off on Sunday night with a 7-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Andy Pettitte, who started the game for the Yankees, went five innings with three strikeouts while allowing two runs on seven hits. Johnny Damon put the Yankees on the board in the bottom of the third inning with a three-run home run to right field, momentarily giving New York a 3-2 lead. Baltimore tied the game on an RBI single by Brian Roberts in top of the fourth, but catcher Jose Molina put the Yankees on top for good in the bottom of the fourth. Molina hit a two-run home run to left field, becoming the final player ever to hit a homer at the Stadium. Jason Giambi had an RBI single in the seventh, and Robinson Cano tacked on another RBI on a sacrifice fly later in the inning. Jose Veras, Phil Coke, and Joba Chamberlain bridged the gap from Pettitte to closer Mariano Rivera, who came on in a non-save situation. Leading 7-3, Rivera got Jay Payton to ground to shortstop and Luke Scott to ground to second before Manager Joe Girardi removed Derek Jeter from the game so the home crowd could give him a warm ovation. After Jeter tipped his cap to the crowd, Rivera got Brian Roberts to ground out along the first base line to end the game. Players stayed on the field for several moments after the Yankees locked up the victory, with a number grabbing dirt from the mound. Yankee captain Derek Jeter took the microphone shortly after to address the crowd with the entire team standing behind him. "On behalf of the entire organization, we want to take this moment to salute you, the greatest fans in the world," Jeter said before the 2008 New York Yankees took a trip after the field's perimeter while tipping their caps to the fans.
