The Cardinals felt compelled by Albert Pujols' comments about possible offseason elbow surgery to issue a statement Tuesday that the club has no "clear indication" that the injury "will or will not require future surgery." Pujols played down the idea Tuesday, saying he hasn't been as sore this season as he was a year ago. "I know he's been sore because he tells me," Manager Tony La Russa said. "My guess is he's got pain. My take (on the comments) ... is it's what he told us recently. I said, 'You want to shut it down?' He said, 'I'm good to go.'"
