Chris Carpenter left during the sixth inning against the Cubs on Sunday night with discomfort in his right triceps, according to The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Carpenter was making just his third start of the season for the Cardinals after missing a good chuck of the last year. "I tried to throw the next pitch and I felt it again, so I decided to make the call," Carpenter said of the discomfort. "You've got to be concerned," manager Tony La Russa said. "(But) the shoulder was good, and that's something of importance." St. Louis is seven games behind Chicago for first place in the NL Central.
