After a week when he was repeatedly linked in published reports to women other than his wife, Roger Clemens acknowledged Monday that he had ?made mistakes? in his personal life but maintained that it did not mean he had ever used performance-enhancing drugs. ?I need to say that I have made mistakes in my personal life for which I am sorry,? Clemens said in a written statement, referring to articles first published in The Daily News. ?I have apologized to my family and apologize to my fans.? Clemens is facing a federal investigation into whether he lied when he testified under oath before Congress that he had never used performance-enhancing drugs. Clemens?s denials directly contradict assertions by his former trainer Brian McNamee, who testified that he injected Clemens with steroids and human growth hormone on numerous occasions from 1998 to 2001.
