Gary Sheffield left Wednesday night's game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the first inning with tightness in his left hamstring. Sheffield pulled up while chasing Jonny Gomes' RBI triple to right-center. New York manager Joe Torre and a trainer attended to Sheffield, who tried to stretch his leg out and walk off the injury. After a few moments, he limped off the field under his own power. He is day to day. "I don't think it's that serious," Sheffield said after the Yankees rallied for a 5-4 victory. "If I feel good tomorrow and I feel like I'm not going to jeopardize missing games or hurt the team, I'll play. Otherwise, I'll sit down."
