Jose Valentin is headed for Port St. Lucie where he will rehab the partially torn ACL in his right knee. The second baseman is on the 15-day disabled list, but the Mets believe it could be as much as four weeks before the injury has healed to the point where he can play. Surgery was an option, but Valentin said he decided against it because he didn't want to lose the rest of his season. "There are things in my contract," he said. "I can't afford three months.. . . I want to play." At 400 plate appearances, a $4.3 million team option for next season kicks in. He is less than one quarter of the way to that mark.
