Luis Severino, who began the season at Double-A Akron, could be a member of the starting rotation should the New York Yankees make an extended playoff run.

If the season ended Thursday, the Yankees would play in the American League Wild Card with a berth in an ALDS on the line.

Severino, 21, is 2-2 with a 2.17 ERA. Andrew Marchand writes that the rookie slots behind Masahiro Tanaka, Michael Pineda and Nathan Eovaldi as New York's No. 4 starter. That would leave Ivan Nova and CC Sabathia for long relief.
