The New York Mets and Chicago Cubs have said that they won't trade Noah Syndergaard and Addison Russell, respectively, but the two clubs discussed a trade during the offseason.
According to sources, the Mets asked the Cubs about Russell multiple times, knowing with certainty that Syndergaard would have to be included in such a deal.
Chicago wants to hold onto Russell, so talks never got serious.
