The Mets have been entertaining offers for outfielder Mike Cameron, who has been expendable since the club signed Carlos Beltran in the offseason. The three leading suitors for Cameron are the Yankees, Orioles and Padres, The New York Post reported Saturday, with the Yankees looking to upgrade their outfield by using Cameron in center field and Hideki Matsui in left. "I am having conversations, 'tis the season," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told The Post on Saturday. "We will see what's out there. The talent level is here. I am not looking to trade prospects for veterans, but if we run into something that makes sense ..." According to The Post, the Mets have made it clear to the Yankees they would not want Tony Womack in return for Cameron, and the Yankees would prefer not to give up Robinson Cano or Chien-Ming Wang. The Orioles' interest in Cameron may also complicate the Yankees' pursuit of the outfielder. To keep him out of the competition's hands, the Yankees might have to overpay Cameron, who is in the middle of a three-year, $19.5 million deal and is to make $7.3 million this season, the paper reported.
