The National League was within one out of winning its first All-Star Game since 1996, but Trevor Hoffman gave up a two-run triple to Michael Young, as the lead went from 2-1 to 3-2.
Vladimir Guerrero and David Wright each hit solo home runs.
Mariano Rivera recorded the save and fellow closer, Toronto's B.J. Ryan picked up the victory.
