Jimmy Rollins agreed to a five-year, $40-million contract extension that will keep him in Philadelphia through the 2010 season. The pact buys out his final year of arbitration eligibility, and it includes a club option for 2011 that would pay Rollins $8.5 million, potentially bringing the deal's value to $47.5 million. The 26-year-old Rollins could have become a free agent after the 2006 season. In addition to a $5 million signing bonus, Rollins will earn $4 million in 2006, $7 million in 2007 and 2008, and $7.5 million in 2009 and 2010. Originally selected out of Encinal (Calif.) H.S. in the second round of the 1996 draft, Rollins debuted in 2000 and tripled in his first at-bat. From 2001 through 2004, Rollins led NL shortstops in fielding percentage. He's a .269 career hitter with 157 doubles, 45 triples, 52 home runs, 143 stolen bases and 428 runs scored in 698 games.
