Beginning in 2012, all Major League players elected to the All-Star Game will be required to play in the game, unless they are injured or are excused by the commissioner's office. The rule is part of MLB's new collective bargaining agreement. The change is considered a shot at Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who ruffled some feathers last year when he elected to skip the All-Star Game, making the decision a day before he notched his 3,000th hit.
