The Yankees plan to shelve their experiment with a six-man starting rotation, but they haven't yet decided who to banish to the bullpen. A.J. Burnett and Phil Hughes are the leading candidates for a demotion. "We've been talking about it and we feel that we need to get down to a five-man rotation and go with it," manager Joe Girardi said. "If you need to insert someone in for a spot start, we can do that, but we feel we probably need to get down to that and get these guys on their normal routine." Burnett has struggled for nearly two months. He hasn't won a game since June 29 against Milwaukee and went winless in July, posting an 0-3 mark with a 4.83 ERA. He is currently winless in two August starts with a 9.58 ERA. Hughes, who has bullpen experience, will start Saturday against Tampa. He is 2-3 in five starts and one relief outing since his return from the disabled list. Four of his five starts have been fairly solid outings.
