In an effort to do whatever it takes to remain in the major leagues, Chris Davis is working to be a more versatile player. On Monday, the Rangers first baseman was out shagging fly balls, something he's been doing more of lately. No one in the Texas organization has told him to work on being an outfielder, but he wants to be prepared just in case. "It gets my legs going so I'm not just sitting around," Davis said. "But I want to stay alert and stay ready. I don't think I'll be playing any outfield, but if it comes down to it, I think I could do it. I've said before that I don't think there are many positions I couldn't play given the proper preparation." He said he played left field and some right in short-season Class A ball in Spokane, Wash.
