There is time for the Rangers and AL MVP Josh Hamilton to work out a contract, but the two sides are bracing for an arbitration hearing next month.
"Right now I'm counting on it," said Hamilton of going to a hearing. "There's still a lot of time between now and then."
Hamilton resumed baseball activities Wednesday after getting over a bout of pneumonia that had him in the hospital for most of last week and saw him lose 15 pounds.
The center fielder wants $12 million and the club offered $8.7 million.
