Mets general manager Omar Minaya says manager Jerry Manuel's job is not in jeopardy. "Yes. Jerry Manuel is our manager," Minaya said when asked if Manuel was safe. "Look, any time you're going to have a couple of losing [series], those things are going to pop up. But there's no discussion at all. Jerry Manuel is our manager, will be our manager. I'm very happy with the job that he's doing. ... To discuss Jerry's job status after a losing streak is just not right. Teams are going to have losing streaks. It's just not right to discuss the manager's status. He's our manager and I see him being our manager." The Mets have lost six of seven games to open the season's second half. "We would like to be better than the way we've played," Minaya said. "We would like to be able to win more games. All teams go through these phases. Hopefully we won't stay in this phase of losing the way we have the past couple of games for long. We've got to hit. Unfortunately, we haven't been hitting. But I feel confident that when you look at our team and getting [Carlos] Beltran back and getting [Jose] Reyes back and all that, and [Luis] Castillo, these guys have a history as a whole, as a team, of getting on base and we'll be able to score runs. Right now we're not doing it."
