Ron Gardenhire has been patient with Delmon Young, but the outfielder entered Thursday batting .231 with a .265 slugging percentage. Young was away from the team May 15-24 to be with his family when his mother took ill and passed away. Gardenhire has been sensitive to the situation, but Young continues to struggle while Carlos Gomez, although unpredictable at the plate, gives the Twins an elite defensive outfielder. "He's been through a lot,'' Gardenhire said. "So we'll give him the benefit of the doubt here and let it play out a little while longer." Young grounded into a double play in the 7th inning, then watched video of the at-bat. "He's spending too much time looking at the video," Gardenhire said. "I think he's driving himself nuts, to tell you the truth."
