Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo is not actively seeking to trade veteran catcher Ivan Rodriguez.
Washington is slipping in the standings and teams are going to begin calling about their veterans, if they haven't already.
Rodriguez is in the final year of his contract.
"To move him, it would have to be a good deal that helps us long term, not a quick fix trade for offense to get us to the time when Ryan Zimmerman is back," Rizzo said. "Pudge would be a big piece for a contending team if they needed a catcher."

Major League Baseball has issued a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine to infielder Jerry Hairston of the Washington Nationals for his aggressive actions, which included making contact with Umpire Ed Hickox, during the bottom of the seventh inning of the club's Friday, May 27th game against the San Diego Padres as Nationals Park in Washington, DC.
Joe Garagiola, Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards and On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.
Hairston had been scheduled to begin to serve his suspension this afternoon, when the Nationals are to conclude their series with the Padres.
However, Hairston has elected to appeal. Thus, his suspension will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.

Nationals manager Jim Riggleman and Jayson Werth met on Friday afternoon to discuss the outfielder's recent comments.
After Washington's fifth straight loss on Wednesday, Werth said "things need to change."
The Nationals are season-worst seven games under .500 and batting just .229.
Riggleman said it was a good meeting and he didn't feel Werth was calling him out.
"I guess the short answer is no," Riggleman said.
"We've got to start winning ballgames," the manager added. "The losing that's taken place here the (last) couple of years -- that's got to change. We've got to change some things -- what we do -- how we play."

Major League Baseball officials met with Puerto Rican authorities last week to discuss the federal investigation into Livan Hernandez's alleged money laundering activities.
The meeting took place May 18 at the district attorney offices in Puerto Rico and lasted less than an hour.
On April 26, a U.S. Attorney in Puerto Rico announced that federal authorities are investigating Hernandez's potential connection to convicted Puerto Rican kingpin Angel Manuel Ayala-Vazquez.
During Vazquez's trial, a convicted drug trafficker testified that Hernandez helped Vazquez launder money.
