The Nationals have claimed catcher Chris Coste off waivers from the Mets.

New York signed Coste, 37, to a one-year deal in December.

Strasburg To Make Minor League Debut April 11

Nationals top prospect Stephen Strasburg will make his minor league debut on April 11.

That is the same day that the fifth starter in Washington's rotation is slated to pitch for the first time in the regular season.

Strasburg was optioned to Harrisburg on March 20 after going 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA and allowing eight hits, walking one and striking out 12 in nine exhibition innings.

Obama To Throw Out First Pitch For Nats

Barack Obama will throw out the ceremonial first ball at the Nationals' opener, marking the 100th anniversary of a presidential pitch to start the season.

William Howard Taft first did it on April 14, 1910.

This will be the 48th time a president has made an opening-day pitch in the nation's capital.

The Nationals will open the season on April 5th against the Phillies.
