Nationals Cut Winless Starter Cabrera

The Nationals have cut pitcher Daniel Cabrera after he began the season with an 0-5 record and a 5.85 ERA.

Washington has 10 days to trade, release or send him outright to the minors. Cabrera said on Tuesday that he probably wouldn't accept a demotion.

Nick Johnson Isn't Against Return To New York

There have been rumors that the Mets are interested in Nationals first baseman Nick Johnson.

Johnson spent time with the Yankees earlier in his career, and isn't opposed to a return to the Big Apple.

"I can't worry about rumors or any of that stuff, I just have to go play. If it happens, it does; if I'm here, great," Johnson said.

"I don't deal with anything until it happens.... But I enjoyed (New York). Fans are into it, they want to win. It's all about winning and that's what I want to play for, to get that ring on my finger. I definitely had a good time while I was here those three years."

Nationals Unlikely To Let Strasburg Make Starts This Season

Early indications suggest that Washington will take a cautious approach with Stephen Strasburg, preferring to keep him in the minor leagues.

Even if he does debut in the big leagues, he will not inherit a prominent role, a team source said yesterday.

Strasburg will be used similarly to the one-inning appearance 2007 No. 1 pick Ross Detwiler received months after he was drafted. Such a debut could even be a part of contractual obligations, depending on the demands of Strasburg's adviser, Scott Boras.
