Randolph: I Wasn't Offered Job With 'Nats

Willie Randolph has refuted a report that he turned down an offer to coach with the Nationals, claiming that no such offer was made.

"There are [stories] out there that I turned down the Washington [third base] coaching job," Randolph said, according to the New York Post. "That's not true. [General manager] Jim [Bowden] and I spoke, and he knew that I was looking for an opportunity to manage and he said he would get back to me. It was never offered, so there was nothing to turn down."

Nationals Interested In Willie Randolph

The Washington Nationals are interested in adding former Mets manager Willie Randolph to their coaching staff, Newsday has learned.

Washington, which fired five of its coaches following a 59-102 showing in 2008, would like Randolph to serve as a bench coach or third-base coach under Manny Acta, who served as Randolph's third-base coach with the Mets in 2005 and 2006 and was often regarded as the greatest threat to Randolph's job security.
