Lasto: Mets Didn't Believe In Me

Lastings Milledge will be the starting centerfielder for the Washington Nationals this season.

"These guys believe in me, and they figure I can get the job done," Milledge said.

Milledge said the Mets didn't believe in him.

"Because I'm inexperienced, they like experienced guys, especially Willie (Randolph). Here it's good to have people really believe in you. I really didn't get any love over there. Which is fine; they're a big market, and they are not going to wait around on young guys."

"The Mets have to win now," he said. "They haven't won a World Championship in (22) years."

Bret Boone Joins Family In D.C.

Bret Boone has joined his brother Aaron and father Bob in Washington, according to the Associated Press.

Boone, who retired in 2005, announced on Monday that he is going to attempt a comeback with the Nationals this season.

"My dad being here, and Aaron being here -- if I was going to extend my career a year or two, I think it would be pretty cool playing with him," Boone told the AP. "At this stage, I didn't have 30 teams banging my door down. It's an opportunity, and I'm very appreciative of it. Everybody doesn't get to do this."
