Lopez, Nationals Avoid Arbitration, Sign $3.9 Million, One-Year Deal

Felipe Lopez and the Nationals avoided arbitration by agreeing to a $3.9 million, one-year deal Monday.

Lopez and the club met right in the middle: He had asked for $4.1 million when he filed for arbitration, while the Nationals submitted a $3.7 million offer. Lopez made $2.7 million last year.

'Mystery Team' Gets In On Ohka

The Pirates have escalated efforts to sign free-agent starter Tomo Ohka.

They had been one of three finalists for Ohka's services entering the weekend -- the Washington Nationals and Toronto Blue Jays were the others -- but the field grew to four on Sunday with the addition of a mystery team.

Ohka Decision May Come Soon

Tomo Ohka might decide this weekend whether to pitch for Washington, Pittsburgh, or Toronto. Ohka, like any pitcher, would fare better in the National League, but Washington and Pittsburgh might struggle to give him run support while Toronto will score a lot.
