Jays CEO Godfrey Steps Down

As expected, Paul Godfrey resigned Monday as president and CEO of the Blue Jays after eight seasons with the club.

Godfrey, 69, will officially step down at the end of the year.

"There's never a right time to do this sort of thing," Godfrey said. "I do these things by what my gut tells me to do."

"It's better to leave a year too early than a minute too late," he once said.

Jays Will Make Offer To Burnett

The Blue Jays have made a bold move by preparing to offer A.J. Burnett a new four-year deal to keep him with the team.

The proposed contract would add two years and $30 million to Burnett's existing pact, which still has two years left.

The package would total $54 million over four years.

Burnett has the power to opt out of his current deal at the conclusion of the season. He is owed $12 million in each of the next two seasons, and the deal would pay him $15 million in the final two years of the deal.

"Our first priority is to try and keep A.J.," GM J.P. Ricciardi said Saturday.
