Toronto's Halladay OK After Liner To Head

Blue Jays' pitcher Roy Halladay is still expected to make his next start for the team despite taking a liner to the head on Friday night, according to The Associated Press.

Halladay was struck near the right temple by a line drive off the bat of Nyjer Morga in the seventh inning of what ultimately was a 1-0 loss to the Pirates Friday.

However, fellow Blue Jays' starter Shaun Marcum was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right elbow.

Blue Jays Fire Gibbons, Bring Back Gaston

John Gibbons was fired Friday by the last-place Blue Jays and replaced by Cito Gaston, who led the team to World Series titles in 1992 and 1993, as reported by the Associated Press.

The Blue Jays began the day 35-39, having lost five straight and 13 of their last 17 games to fall 10 1/2 games behind the AL-East leading Red Sox.

Jays GM Apologizes For Criticizing Reds' Dunn

Toronto general manager J.P. Ricciardi has apologized for comments he made about Cincinnati outfielder Adam Dunn on a radio show earlier this week, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.

"It was my fault," Ricciardi said in a phone interview.

On Wednesday night, a caller to Ricciardi's radio show suggested that a deal for Dunn would help Toronto's offense.

"Do you know the guy doesn't really like baseball that much?" Ricciardi said. "Do you know the guy doesn't have a passion to play the game that much? How much do you know about the player?

"There's a reason why you're attracted to some players and there's a reason why you're not attracted to some players. I don't think you'd be very happy if we brought Adam Dunn here."

Dunn didn't take too kindly to the comments.

"I know nothing about this clown. I have no idea who he is," Dunn told reporters on Thursday. "I don't really care what one guy thinks, to be honest with you. If I'm a GM, I don't know if I would go out of my way to kind of discredit a player.

"It [ticks] me off to be honest with you. He doesn't even know me. If he knew me, fine, say what you want. This guy doesn't know anything about me other than what he sees on whatever SportsCenter they have up there. That's it."
