Jays Decide Bonds Isn't A Fit For Club

J.P. Ricciardi was intrigued by what Barry Bonds could bring to the Toronto Blue Jays.

But ultimately, he isn't a fit because of where he would play. They already have a DH in Frank Thomas, who couldn't play first base, while Bonds would be a liability in left field.

According to a person close to the organization, the conversation "didn't last five minutes" among Ricciardi, his assistants, and team President Paul Godfrey.

Blue Jays' Ryan Expects To Throw On Opening Day

The Blue Jays' B.J. Ryan said he expects to be ready for Opening Day after having Tommy John elbow surgery last May, according to an Associated Press report.

"It's what I shot for all winter," Ryan said. "You bust your tail the whole time and put myself in a situation where you can break with the team."

Ryan said he thinks his elbow is nearly as good as it was before the season-ending surgery nine months ago.
