Zaun Files For Free Agency

Catcher Gregg Zaun filed for free agency on Monday, but there is still a chance that he could remain in a Toronto uniform in 2007.

Zaun became the fourth Blue Jays player to file, joining Ted Lilly, Justin Speier and Frank Catalanotto -- all of whom filed for free agency on Saturday. The only player left to file is catcher Bengie Molina. Toronto general manager J.P. Ricciardi said earlier this month that the Jays would buy out Molina's contract for $500,000 instead of picking up his $7.5 million option for next year.

Wells Calls Odds Of Staying In Toronto Better Than 50-50

Vernon Wells was on Fan 590 radio with Mike Wilner late last week and reiterated that he thought his chances were "better than 50-50" that he would be with the Jays next year and for many seasons after that.

He also said that his coming decision, probably the biggest he'll make in his career, is one that "I kind of just pray about. Hopefully the Lord will guide my steps ... and whisper in the Blue Jays' ear at the same time."

Later, he expanded on that for the Star.

"You just don't want your flesh to make every decision in your life," he said. "In my life, I've already been blessed in so many ways that ... greed definitely doesn't need to be there.

"At the same time, once you make a decision, you don't want to have any doubts. Once things are done with, you want to be happy with whatever situation you're in and go from there.

Burnett Buys Vince Carter's Toronto Home For $700k Less Than Asking

Vince Carter listed his Toronto home at $3.5 million, but it finally sold for $2.8 million to Blue Jays pitcher A.J. Burnett.

Carter, who bought the place for $2.75 million in 2001 and commissioned considerable renovations, shook his head in lament on Sunday.

"That tends to break your pocket a little bit," he said.
