Josh Hamilton May End Up With Mid-Market Team

With the Dodgers having taken on a ton of salary via trade over the last month, it's unlikely that they will target Josh Hamilton as a free agent this winter.

The Red Sox cut salary, but there are a number of other major-market clubs that will likely pass on the slugger, including the Yankees, Phillies and Angels.

"So it's going to be a fascinating market for him, because of his history," one American League executive said of Hamilton.

"Any player who can have the impact on a game he can have, you'd love to add. But on a nine-figure deal … I wouldn't say he's a slam dunk to make a team happy for the next seven years. To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me to see a mid-market team come out of the woodwork and step up and pay him, kind of like the way the Reds did with Joey Votto. As we always say, all you need is one team."

Oswalt Could Be Dealt Before Playoff Deadline

It is "possible" that the Rangers could trade Roy Oswalt before Friday's deadline.

The Dodgers, Nationals and White Sox have been linked to Oswalt as they seek pitching for the stretch run.

Chicago may be an unlikely destination as a source indicated that Texas doesn't want to trade Oswalt to an American League club.

"I don't have any say-so," said Oswalt, who confirmed that he has cleared waivers. "If they trade me, I would have to go. I'm just going to do what they tell me to do."

Diamond Suspended Six Games For Throwing At Hamilton's Head

Scott Diamond has been suspended six games for throwing near the head of Josh Hamilton during Thursday's game.

The Twins left-hander will appeal the suspension.

"As I said [Thursday], the pitch got away from me," he said. "We were trying to work in. I'm glad nobody got hurt."

Diamond didn't come out and say it, but he indicated that he was protecting teammate Joe Mauer, who was inexplicably hit in the upper back by Rangers righthander Roy Oswalt.

Beltre Hits For Cycle Days After Three-Homer Game

Adrian Beltre hit for the cycle on Friday night as the Rangers defeated the Twins 8-0.

Beltre completed the feat with a single in the seventh inning, only minutes after Rangers left-hander Matt Harrison lost his bid for a no-hitter.

His cycle came two nights after he hit three homers in a game against Baltimore. Over the past four games, Beltre is 12 of 18 with five homers, three doubles and a triple.
