Texas Rangers Wiretap

David Murphy Could Be Hot Trade Chip

Rangers outfielder David Murphy could be a hot trade chip as the July 31 deadline approaches, writes T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com.

Left fielders have struggled offensively this season and Murphy has become a fourth outfielder thanks to the return of Josh Hamilton.

"It's hard to think about numbers right now because I'm struggling," Murphy said. "You don't even want to think about numbers, you just want to go out and play well. You don't need to look at the scoreboard. You get a feel if you are hitting the ball well or not. The numbers will take care of themselves."

Webb, Borbon Taking Steps To Return

Rangers right-hander Brandon Webb begin a 30-day injury-rehabilitation assignment with Double-A Frisco by starting against Tulsa on Monday.

It is Webb's first true game appearance since April 6, 2009, when he worked four innings in an opening day start for Arizona.

In August 2009, Webb underwent surgery to remove debris and inflamed tissue from his right shoulder. Since then, he has faced hitters only in controlled situations such as batting practice and extended spring training games.

"I look at it as the next step in the process," Webb said Sunday. "I'm looking forward to it. I'm sure there will be more adrenaline, and that should help."

Texas outfielder Julio Borbon, on the disabled list since May 14 because of an inflamed left hamstring, will accompany Webb to Frisco.

Rangers Have To Stick With Feliz

The Rangers don't have many options at closer, despite Neftali Feliz's struggles on the mound this season.

Feliz, the 2010 American League Rookie of the Year, spent time on the disabled list and has struggled with the inability to throw off-speed pitches.

"Command," manager Ron Washington said when asked what is wrong with Feliz.

"All I want Neffy to do is be Neffy," he added. "He's healthy, [there's] nothing wrong with him.

"Sometimes pitchers go through slumps, just like hitters go through slumps. And he's in a slump and we got to keep giving him the ball, until that one day he goes out there and everything falls into place and then we can move forward. The questions I'm getting, I'm definitely tired of answering."

Teams Asking About San Diego's Bell

As the Padres continue to struggle, the chances of them trading reliever Heath Bell this summer increase.

Bell, a closer, isn't getting much work and he's headed for free agency this winter.

The Padres briefly broached a contract extension with him this spring, but those talks were very general and have not been revisited since camp ended.

Several teams, including the Rangers, have inquired about Bell, according to sources.

The Padres, not yet eager to pull the trigger, are in listen-only mode and, sources say, want to wait a little longer and see how things play out.

Rangers Not Concerned About Ogando's Workload

The Rangers aren't worried about the workload of starting pitcher Alexi Ogando -- yet.

Ogando has pitched 59 2/3 innings so far this season for Texas. He pitched 72 1/3 innings in Frisco, Oklahoma City and Texas all of last year as primarily a reliever.

He's getting an extra day of rest before his next start thanks to Thursday's off day, but the club has no plans at this point to try to scale him back.

"I think Ogando has shown you that his stamina is as good as any pitcher in the game of baseball," Washington said.

"Each time he's been out there late in the ball game, he's still popping 95, 96 [miles per hour]. That tells you right there he's not losing stamina.

"He might not have had that many innings on his arm, but you know in this game there's always waters that are being chartered that people have never been through before."
