Cameron Will Start Instead Of Drew Against Lefty

Mike Cameron will draw the opening day start in right field for the Red Sox Friday against the Rangers, Terry Francona announced Thursday morning, according to an ESPN.com report.

The right-handed hitting Cameron will play instead of J.D. Drew, in a concession by Francona to the presence of left-hander C.J. Wilson on the mound for the Rangers.

Wilson Didn't 'Bite At The First Offer' From Rangers

C.J. Wilson said Tuesday that the Rangers made him a long-term contract offer a few weeks ago, but that it's too late in the process to get anything done before Opening Day.

"They did eventually make an offer," Wilson said during an appearance on the Ben & Skin Show on ESPN 103.3 FM in Dallas.

"But it didn't really make any sense for me to bite at the first offer. I was like, 'Well, maybe if you guys would have made that offer in January we would have had time to work it out.' It will take a little longer than two or three days or a week."

Wilson has said this spring that he doesn't want any contract talks distracting from his preparation and the team's goals this season.

He is making $7 million in 2011 just one season removed from joining the starting rotation and will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Royals Acquire Treanor From Rangers

The Royals have announced today that the club has acquired catcher Matt Treanor from the Rangers in exchange for cash considerations. With the trade, the Royals 40-man roster now stands at 40. Treanor is expected to join the Royals today and be in uniform for the club’s exhibition game this afternoon against the Brewers.

Treanor, 35, returns to the Royals after originally being selected by the club in the fourth round of the 1994 June Free Agent Draft. He was traded by the Royals to the Marlins in exchange for Matt Whisenant on July 29, 1997. Treanor led the Rangers in games caught last season and homered in the ALCS against the Yankees. He batted .211 in 2010 and set new career highs in games (82), at bats (237), runs (22), hits (50), home runs (5), RBI (27) and walks (22). Treanor is a .227 career hitter in 360 games for the Marlins (2004-08), Tigers (2009) and Rangers (2010). He batted .273 (6-for-22) with one home run and four RBI in 11 games for the Rangers this spring.

Rangers Add Bush As Long Reliever

Dave Bush will make the final roster of the Rangers as a long reliever, according to manager Ron Washington.

Bush was 0-0 with a 4.85 ERA in 13 innings in Cactus League games this spring.

"I came here on a minor league deal hoping to show them I could pitch here," Bush said. "I'm excited. I'm OK with whatever they want me to do."

Tommy Hunter Could Miss Six Weeks

Rangers starter Tommy Hunter could miss up to six weeks of action after suffering a Grade II right groin strain.

He is expected to begin the season on the disabled list.

"I can't do anything about it," Hunter said. "I can't help the team on the disabled list. I want to be there Opening Day and I'm not going to. I just have to get healthy and get back out there. It's tough."

Michael Kirkman and Dave Bush are the leading candidates to replace Hunter in the team's starting rotation.

Hunter, 24, suffered the injury during an appearance against the Reds on Thursday.
