Rangers On Series Win Over Yankees: This Sends A Statement

The Rangers defeated the Yankees 7-2 on Thursday to win the three-game series and remain in the thick of the playoff race.

Texas hasn't reached the postseason since 1999.

"We're treading into territory we've never been in before," Texas manager Ron Washington said.

"This sends a statement that we can play with anyone out there," Jason Grilli said.

Byrd Wants To End Career With Rangers

Marlon Byrd was slotted as a fourth outfielder entering the season, but has turned into one of the Rangers most consistent players.

"Marlon does a lot of things that don't necessarily show up in the box score but are evident if you watch us play," general manager Jon Daniels told the Dallas Morning News. "How many times has his aggressiveness in the outfield saved an extra base? He sets the tone with the way he goes about it ? always running hard, always on the attack. Both the younger guys and the more established players seem to feed off of that."

Texas has a crowded outfield and Byrd will be a free agent this winter, but he still hopes to stay put.

"I know I can help this team, but I know the situation here," he said. "I know they're going to do what's best for the organization. I want this to be my last stop. We have the pieces in place to win here."

Feliz Could Become This Season's K-Rod

As the Rangers are in the midst of the playoff chase, Neftali Feliz can be an X-factor out of the bullpen. He could have a similar impact as Francisco Rodriguez when he was a rookie with the 2002 Angels.

"He's this year's K-Rod," says one scout. "No matter who it is up there, he strikes you out. He's got one of those arms that could throw a marshmallow through a battleship."
