Rangers Invite Benson To Spring Training

Free-agent pitcher Kris Benson has signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers.

Benson last pitched in the majors in 2006, going 11-12 with a 4.82 ERA for Baltimore.

He reported to training camp as a non-roster invitee.

Rangers Hold Onto Blalock As Trade Bait?

The Rangers strangely picked up with $6.2 million option on the contract of third baseman Hank Blalock this offseason, and could be looking to use him as trade bait.

Texas could look to flip Blalock for pitching has they attempt to improve heading into the 2009 season.

Rangers Want To Extend Josh Hamilton

The Rangers have a history of extending players through their arbitration years and will attempt to do so with Josh Hamilton.

"Those are things we usually talk about in Spring Training," assistant general manager Thad Levine said.

RealGM Note: Hamilton was ranked 33rd in season FIC and 'deserved' to make $14 million during the 2008 season.
