Laird Named Catcher, Salty Sent Down

Gerald Laird was named the starting catcher for the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia was sent down to the minors and will start every day at Triple-A Oklahoma.

Laird and Saltalamacchia spent the final two months of last season sharing the job in Texas.

Patterson Signs Minor League Deal With Texas

John Patterson has agreed to a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers.

Patterson was released by the Nationals last week.

"It's a comfortable fit, and I'm looking to getting out there and getting going," said Patterson.

Rangers' Bradley To Test Knee At DH Friday

The Texas Rangers plan to play Milton Bradley at designated hitter on Friday, his first appearance since tearing his ACL last September, according to MLB.com.

The appearance will allow the team to assess whether or not he will begin the season on the disabled list.

"Hopefully, that's not likely," manager Ron Washington said.
