Max Scherzer Feels Ahead Of Schedule In Rehab

Apr 11, 2024 9:45 AM

Max Scherzer feels he's ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation from back surgery.

The Texas Rangers right-hander didn't experience continuing nerve pain after the procedure, as is common.

"I really feel like we're kind of turning the corner here in terms of rehab," Scherzer said Wednesday, the day after a 40-pitch bullpen session. "I'm recovering from things and kind of feeling normal. Looking good."

Scherzer, 39, is expected to throw live batting practice next week, has had a rough timeframe of the summer for a return since undergoing surgery Dec. 15.

Rangers' Josh Jung Fractures Wrist After HBP

Apr 2, 2024 8:19 AM

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung fractured his right wrist in the ninth inning of Monday night's 9-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Jung was hit by a Phil Maton pitch while swinging and was replaced by Josh Smith to finish the plate appearance.

Bruce Bochy had no timetable for how long Jung will be out.

"I just feel horrible for him," Bochy said. "He's had such tough luck on this thing as far as the injuries and it puts a damper on this one. He'll be back."

Rangers' Max Scherzer Could Return Earlier Than Expected

Mar 28, 2024 8:40 AM

The Texas Rangers may not place Max Scherzer on the 60-day injured list to begin the season.

That may indicate that Scherzer could return earlier than expected in the aftermath of his offseason back surgery to repair a herniated disc.

Scherzer, 39, had originally been expected to miss the first couple months of the season.

The Rangers acquired Scherzer from the New York Mets last trade deadline.

Left-hander Jordan Montgomery and the Arizona Diamondbacks are in agreement on a one-year, $25 million contract that includes a vesting player option for a second season, sources told ESPN on Tuesday night, bolstering the National League champions' rotation with the postseason standout from the team that beat them in the World Series.

The deal, which is pending a physical, ends Montgomery's free agency two days before Opening Day and could include a second-year player option at $20 million if Montgomery makes 10 starts. Before big league camp has even officially started, Rangers third baseman Josh Jung’s bad Spring Training luck has already begun.

Walking into the clubhouse in Surprise on Saturday, Jung just shook his head, saying “Here we go.”

Chris Young Says Rangers Not Resting On Laurels

Feb 14, 2024 7:42 PM

The Texas Rangers opened spring training Wednesday still beaming from their surprising run to a World Series title last year -- and intent on adding to it.

"In some ways, I think success for us is defined by what we do from here moving forward, not what we have done," Rangers general manager Chris Young said. "You look out and you see the Kansas City Chiefs and what they were able to do in repeating and even what their comments were after winning in terms of their focus for next year already. And I think it's very similar to what our group is. It's so hard to win a championship, and it's so hard to get back to even the World Series. A lot of things have to go our way."
