The Tampa Bay Rays reduced their spring roster by five today, optioning INF Reid Brignac, C John Jaso, INF/OF Elliot Johnson, LHP David Price and OF Justin Ruggiano to Durham (AAA). There are now 37 players officially remaining in camp (15 pitchers, 3 catchers, 10 infielders, 9 outfielders).

Rays outfielder B.J. Upton won't be ready for Opening Day after a recently-suffered bone bruise in his hand.
"I would say no," said Rays manager Joe Maddon when asked about Upton's status.
Upton had just begun playing in Minor League games this past week after rehabbing from surgery in November to repair a torn labrum.
Upton was hit by a pitch on Saturday during a Minor League game.

Pat Burrell showed his appreciation for fans in Philadelphia on Friday by taking out large ads in two of the city's largest newspapers.
Burrell, who won a World Series with the Phillies last fall, signed with the Rays as a free agent this winter.
In the advertisements in the Inquirer and the Daily News, Burrell thanked the fans for sharing a championship parade with him.
