Red Sox Hire Bogar From Rays

The Red Sox have hired former major leaguer and Rays' coach Tim Bogar as their new first base coach.

Bogar replaces Luis Alicea, the only member of last year's staff who was not offered a contract for the 2009 season. Boston GM Theo Epstein announced Bogar's hiring Friday.

Edwin Jackson An Option For Mets?

The Mets are still looking to bolster their starting rotation, and an interesting trade possibilty involves Tampa Bay's Edwin Jackson.

Jackson, 25, has a great fastball and plenty of potential but has lacked command as times.

The Rays could look to trade Jackson, especially with David Price moving along quicker than anyone expected.

Red Sox Investigating Baldelli's Health

The Red Sox are doing due diligence on free agent Rocco Baldelli, who could be in the mix as a fourth outfielder after the team dealt Coco Crisp to the Kansas City Royals last week for reliever Ramon Ram?rez.

According to major league sources, Baldelli, from Cumberland, R.I., met with the Red Sox at Fenway late last week to discuss his future and the effects of the mitochondrial disorder that limited him to 80 at-bats with the Rays last season.
